Eshaness Vest
To admire the many lighthouses in Scotland and Shetland is to admire the eight generations of the Stevenson family who designed and built them. Robert Louis Stevenson the elder was the founder of the lighthouse Stevenson's Dynasty and the grandfather of the author of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Treasure Island, and Kidnapped.
Sited on the Eshaness Headland in the northwest Shetland Mainland, the lighthouse was first lit in 1929; its beacon can be seen for several miles into the Atlantic Ocean to the east and St. Magnus Bay to the west and south.
