This series of six new designs, Elements, recalls and celebrates our planetary elements, Earth, Air, Fire, and Water, and their universe ancestors, Wind and Light.

The earliest human societies involved rituals for favor and protection using observable things at hand: animals, nature and, frequently, the elements. Rites took shape to mark seminal passages of life, hunting and gathering; gods and goddesses were created to provide blessings beyond human capacity. And later, structures of stone and wood appeared to mark the importance of the rite or the place.

For each of these new designs, I have put myself in a conceptual place of experiencing an element for the first time, much like a child. In this crew-neck cardigan, the colors of the primordial fire that warmed the dwellings and heated the food of the first humans are symbolically woven through the garment, much as those ancestral practices are still woven into the fabric of contemporary living.
